Dear University Community,
The new academic semester which began effective December 20, 2019, with students paying their fees continue today January 13, 2020, with the start of classes, and I will like to reemphasize to all departments and faculties that lecturers should start classes today, and strictly follow the Central Time-Table already released by the Central TimeTable Committee. No lecturer is allowed to change the already fixed periods. In rare situation when this must change, every student in such class MUST sign off on this, and the Chairman, Time-Table committee must be formally informed, his email address is (email@example.com).
It is understandable that many things will be ongoing at the same time as classes start this semester because of the initial difficulties that we face in uploading all results, in approval of results, in the allocation of students to hostels, and more.
Every one of the activities still ongoing because of the difficulties would not stop the start of classes today January 13, 2020, and students would go about classes and also attend to other matters such as course registration, etc. Soon, the University Senate will approve results for the returning students and the Vice Chancellor will publish their results and the returning students would be formally upgraded to their current levels.
The new order of activities now is as follows:
1. pay your fees and registrar online first, and
2. after registration by every, students to proceed to departments for screening by level advisers.
Screening must not stop classes, each student should go for screening only within the time allowed by their lecture time table. In other words, student should go for screening in-between lectures.
The current deadline for course registration is January 20, 2020, and at that time, the University will consider whether or not to extend the deadline.
The events or activities may not be perfect at this time because this is the first time the University is using this schedule and operating our Integrated Portal. This is understandable. Everyone is expected to make every efforts to follow the guidelines as much as possible, giving the difficulties.
Again, I congratulate all new students that have been admitted to the great UofA of Nigeria this academic year. We are excited about their joining the University at this exciting moment. The Centre for SIWES and Student Employment is introducing a Student Mentoring Program, and new students would benefit greatly from this. I encourage all students, new and old, to participate in this program either as a mentor or as a mentee. My dear students, the goal of your University is to ensure superb campus experience for you all, and while also ensuring zero tolerance in discipline. All our students have the opportunity to become global citizens and I encourage you to explore all the wonderful opportunities available to assist you to succeed.
I like to thank all the staff of our great University for the hard work and sacrifice to ensure that grades are marked and uploaded, and within a few days from today, all students will receive their grades in their Portal. This feat will never be achieved without the superb service of the lecturers, their HODs, the Deans, the Provost, and Chairman and Members of SBC, and all the other staff concerned.
I thank you all and I look forward to seeing you around. I am very proud to be your Vice Chancellor! Please let me know how I may be of help to you this semester.
